Welcome to the showcase featuring the work of graduating students from the Department of Architecture & 3D Design. The work presented in these showcases represents imaginative solutions to global challenges. In all our courses we are encouraging innovation, creativity and critical thinking throughout the design process, tackling some of the most important issues of the 21st century.
This year has clearly been unusual with the various impacts from Covid, however both staff and students have reacted with remarkable positivity. Students adapted well to blended learning which has varied between on campus and online provision and new means of engagement have been utilised. Staff have also made very good use of alternative means of teaching and communication. Everyone is looking forward to a more stable year in which the attributes of the Barbara Hepworth Building can be fully exploited alongside opportunities to work more closely with colleagues from the Music, Humanities and Media areas who will join us in the new academic School of Arts and Humanities.
It has been a testament to the resilience of students and staff that we have been able to produce such a vibrant body of work in the current circumstances and this showcase gives us a unique opportunity to celebrate individual successes and show the collective strength of the whole Department. I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped make this happen including the many external visiting lecturers and presenters who have added an extra vital dimension to the student experience this year.
I must also mention the fact that 2021 marks 100 years of teaching Architecture at Huddersfield. The celebratory lecture series that has been held provided a great opportunity both for reflection on the achievements of the past, and for planning an exciting future in educating future design professionals.
