Architectural Technology BSc(Hons)

Our Final Year Architectural Technology students have worked on a diverse range of design challenges in their Major Project Dissertation this year. Here we showcase a selection of projects that have explored the following topics as: Retrofitting buildings to EnerPHit Standard; Exploring the use of Timber Frame structures with Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) approach; Adaptable Design Strategies to enhance flexibility for Multi-Purpose buildings; Assisted Living Facility Design; Affordable Modular Housing for Homeless; Care Home conversion; Carbon Neutral Home; Office of the Future; Passivhaus for a retired Architect. Within the particularity of those themes, the projects have explored the complexity of building users’ needs, constructability challenges, and the demands of climate and location.

Here, we also have samples of the Collaborative Project Final submissions from our second year group, including QS & CPM students.

At the heart of this process, the students’ continuous development of communication skills is highlighted through the use digital design technologies that are central in the construction industry (e.g. Building Information Modelling, BIM). Overall, these dissertation projects present a great balance between theoretical and practical skills of our Architectural Technology students, with a strong emphasis on enterprise and professional development, towards the standards set by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technology (CIAT).
