Architectural Technology BSc(Hons)

The aim of this dissertation is to explore current literature
surrounding carbon neutral and carbon negative
construction and design and deploy the findings into a
design of a carbon neutral building. Carbon neutral is a
relatively new concept with limited literature so this
report will contribute to the discussion and evaluating the
derived design will guide future researchers into there
own adoption of carbon neutral design. The research
explores the context to carbon neutral design, why it’s
needed and policies and agendas related to it. It also
looks at how it’s achievable, through a variety of
technologies and principles that reduce the carbon
footprint of a building. Case studies of existing buildings
that either achieved carbon negativity or attempted to
will show what works and what doesn’t. In short, the
dissertation discusses why and how society should go
carbon neutral.
