Melaka Library and Ecology Centre, Melaka, Malaysia. The aim of the project is to give the locals a space to disconnect from the busy working life and advance their literary skills while enjoying the various flora species available to examine. With the theme of inclusiveness and diversity, Melaka Library and Ecology Centre uses the flower of life as a symbol and foundation of what the building represents. It provides key spaces for innovative thinking to further progress our knowledge of the different species, with another goal of fighting climate change in Malaysia. Situated between 2 streams of water, the space achieves key views while also keeping a quiet atmosphere due to the distance of the site from most noisy spaces. The project also includes a Café and deck, to draw in visitors and tourists in conjunction with students and locals. Material choices were carefully selected to achieve an innovative approach that would have a low carbon footprint and use local materials. Materiality and theme were essential for the final result that is the Melaka Library and Ecology Centre.
