Hǎiyàn Jīngshén | SPIRIT OF HAIYAN
This international project based in China aims to respond to the cultural and architectural characters of the location with respect to existing architecture, religion, tradition, change and geographics. Having studied the site and local area considering the stated factors, a suitable architectural space is to be proposed considering context and place.
Yunnan is a mountainous province, coving an approximate 394,000km², located along the border of Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, in the southwest of China. The mountainous nature of the land forces the people of Yunnan to settle in the eastern region of the province. The capital of Yunnan, Kunming, can be found in the Chenggong District of the province. Haiyan Village can be found in Kunming at the east shore of Dianchi Lake.
Inspired by the culture, historical traditions and abundance of ethnicity, the project proposes a culture centre in a juxtaposing modern style of architecture to house, facilitate and exhibit an essence of the spirit of Haiyan, hence the name Haiyàn Jīngshén.
