Architecture/Architecture (International) (RIBA Part 1) BA(Hons)

The students’ projects explore personal interpretations and individual aspirations for real-life locations. In all these projects, culture, context and place is taken as scope and inspiration to inform an architectural proposition. Both locations are very different, historically and climatically. One group explored the redevelopment of Huddersfield Canal Side and the other worked on three other areas in China, where students had to comprehend and respond to a very unfamiliar culture and context. The location, building type and detailed brief are negotiated and finalised through reflection, iteration and challenge. Techniques of representation are adopted to both inform and express design ideas. Overall, the selection of projects presented here are an expression of each student’s individual aspirations and, cumulatively, provide a snapshot of the group’s broader social and architectural concerns.
