Welcome to the Product Design Final Year Showcase, a window on the BA(Hons) and BSc(Hons) graduating students, and their work.

This year has been particularly challenging for all students in all Universities, and no less hear in Huddersfield and in Product Design.  It is truly remarkable that the standard of work here has maintained at its excellent level, and is testament to both the students, and the staff team.

As always, our students have researched, looked at, and developed products from their own briefs, and have provided virtually finished designs from an aesthetic, technical and merchantable standpoint, becoming commercially astute product / industrial designers. Clearly they are capable of developing creative ideas into fully fledged commercial products, and given the UK’s current economic situation, this is exactly what is needed.

Our students have gained and developed technical knowhow from problem identification, through solutions and development, learning and applying industry standard software, and developing aspects of the working of the device, to a finished product, with great 2D and 3D communication. The BA course is more aesthetic and driven by style, shape and form, whilst the BSc is more about the technical workings, although there is overlap between both courses and students do not not decide on their preferred route until the end of the 1st Year. Career prospects are very good and broad, from Film/TV, through Automotive, Furniture, Industrial, Medical, etc. People will always need and use products. These products need to be designed. As product designers, they have shown they can make change happen.

Enjoy this exhibition – it is really worthwhile.
