Lauren McGuire

Product Design BA/BSc (Hons)

Lauren upholds the principle of ‘form follows function’ in her approach to product design. Completing her Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Huddersfield, her interest in transport design took her to Berlin for a 6-month internship at ID|Berlin. There she grew an understanding of metal and plastic properties, industry manufacture methodologies, and how to apply this to develop the most cost-effective solutions for company and client requirements. Working on electric bicycles for Mubea and Bergstrom, her skills in design for manufacture ensures her products are not only rapid prototype tested using 3D printers; modelled and stress tested in Solidworks and Fusion 360; but dimension and assembly drawn ready for appropriate production. Her portfolio demonstrates a creative flair - utilizing numerous Adobe packages for exhibition images and website editing; decals and client branding; digital mock-ups and concept presentations. McGuire’s final project reflects an attentiveness to the struggles of beginner sport climbers when operating specialist equipment – e.g. belay plates and quickdraws - and a precision for elegant and unobtrusive design. This supported by her development report of thorough primary research and literature review in both consumers and the relevant outdoor adventure market.
