Steven Muir is a recent graduate with almost 2-years’ experience working in industry as a Product Designer. Working at Fired Up Corporation enabled Steven to design and develop products for three brands, Adam Fires & Fireplaces, Aurora Fires & Fireplaces and Corby of Windsor. Covering markets such as online customer facing retail, National Accounts and the hotel industry, this allowed Steven to develop a diverse skillset. Learning new skills in graphic design for brochures, photo editing, compiling and creating user instruction manuals, developing CAD skills to create new products for manufacturing and creating technical drawings using SolidWorks. Learning how to design for industry and gaining a business understanding proved vital when returning to university to complete the final year of his degree. Steven’s graduate project addressed the issue of wastage in pubs and bars. Applying his 9-years’ experience in the hospitality industry and gaining insight from industry professionals and breweries, ‘Scale’ was created – a smart cask beer measurement device that improves the accuracy of stock measurement with the aim of increasing profits and reducing wastage, in order for pubs and breweries to save money.
