Contemporary Art and Illustration BA(Hons)

My work consists of various creative techniques along with paintings, drawings, comics, and illustrations. I make drawings that give the viewer a glimpse of culture references, they may be tempted to read through a conventional western secular lens, and yet I challenge these assumptions by giving a careful viewer access to my own experiences as a Muslim, with strong Asian heritage living in western societies. Therefore, the work I do can challenge social expectations and mainstream ideology. My work has evolved over the past few years while exploring identity and influenced by many factors in my life. I feel as though I can make a positive impact through use of my illustrations. The political aspects of my work come through illustrations and are driven by narratives as I consider each piece has its own story to tell. My illustrations are based on inspiring situations: visions, combining elements together, allowing the viewer to become a part of the art and therefore become aware of the issue. Women play a powerful role in Islam; some cultures take advantage of the female’s identity.
