My work is a form of confessional expanded self portrait describing my experience with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. Using a mixture of photography and traditional materials, I describe the fractures of mentality and explore how this cathartic process can translate to the physical. I created an initial series of self portrait photos, using a combination of lighting, set and makeup changes with double or long exposure and compressing video frames. My final piece used these methods too, I took nearly 40 photos of myself, my hands, my plants and manipulated them digitally. It represents a two way mirror. I reflected my physical self and my mental self. I am both damaged and powerful, both in vices and in control. “Death inspires me like a dog inspires a rabbit”
