Billie Hunter-Brown
Costume with Textiles BA(Hons)
My final year project is based on the novel A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood, which is set in the 1920’s. I used historical references to develop the designs, whilst incorporating dyed and embroidered textile elements inspired by shapes and forms found at the coast. I like to let nature and the world around me inspire my design creations, this is also shown within my second-year costume design for the character of Puck from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The course has enabled me to explore and develop my skills in design, textiles, and costume construction. I am primarily a costume maker and my final year project allowed me to explore new concepts and further build on my knowledge of construction techniques such as tailoring and cutting on the bias. I hope to keep exploring and expanding my knowledge as I move into the costume industry.
Whilst studying, I undertook a placement year where I gained costume construction experience at a variety of companies within Europe such as; The Tudor Tailor, Oxfam Festival Shop, and The White Horse Theatre Company. I look forward to the future and all that it brings.
