I chose the construction with textiles pathway, specialising in print. For my Final Major Project, the text I chose was ‘Peter Pan’, written by J.M Barrie.
I chose the construction and textiles pathway, so I could develop the textiles for three characters while constructing a costume for one. The textiles I created were inspired by Peter, Wendy and The Lost Boys. The costume I have constructed is for one of Peter’s Lost Boys. This costume was inspired by the nature that surrounds The Lost Boys on Neverland, specifically mushrooms. I created this costume for Theatre as through my placement year I discovered that theatre is likely where I would like to end up working.
In my placement year I worked alongside various people with different skillsets. I first worked at East Riding Theatre as a Costume Assistant for two shows. Alongside this I helped with a community Pantomime, doing wardrobe and general backstage jobs. Later in the year I began volunteering at Leeds Playhouse Costume Hire.
