Costume with Textiles BA(Hons)

I am passionate about design and textiles. Throughout my work, I have explored a myriad of ways in which textiles can complement the silhouette and vice versa. In my first project, I explored the theme of Shapeshifting. Shapeshifting is a reoccurring theme throughout mythology and folklore it is a supernatural ability to transform oneself into an animal through divine intervention or sorcery. From Slavic folklore where it’s used as a symbol of female empowerment and getting back control of their bodies, to the Korean idea of cursed individuals, to eternal love in China, and the ‘don’t judge a book its cover’ in Korea. I am seeking to explore how different cultures reflect on this ability and what it tells us about them. For my FMP I designed Death Note the musical, which follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone's name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. The death note belonged to a bored Death God who oversees the bored students’ demise into madness. I hope to further improve my design and textile skills while undertaking an MA course.
