Costume with Textiles BA(Hons)

For my final major project I looked at Bambi, A life in the woods by Felix Salten and the film adaptation Bambi by Walt Disney. I was interested in adapting the animal character into a ballet costume. The character I chose to make was Thumper, I wanted the deisgn to look like a rabbit but also allow for fluidity to move around on stage. As most of the cast was male, I chose to change my characters gender to a female so they could be equally represented. I took design inspiration from where the book was originally based, in Austria, looking at national flowers and nature within the country. As the book/film is based in a woodland setting I used this environment to influence my designs. I am very happy how my costume turned out and this self directed project has helped me become more confident and develop skills. I have elected to showcase my 2nd year costume, the selected text was Bram Stoker’s Dracula, I chose to do the character Mina Murray. This was set it in 1890's but with a contemporary twist through the textile elements, such as the smocked sleeves.
