Costume with Textiles BA(Hons)
My major project was based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book Blood of Elves, the first novel of The Witcher series. I designed the costumes for theatre as this granted me extra creative freedoms away from the franchise's well-loved film and video game adaptations. The costumes combine elements of historical, Elizabethan-inspired silhouettes with contemporary shapes and fabrics to create visually exciting costumes while subverting audience expectations of how the characters should appear. My aim for this project was to strengthen and push my textile work. I challenged myself by using new skills and processes for the first time, such as laser cutting and working with leather. My time management for this project was very effective, as I incorporated many techniques and visual elements into my costumes to create depth and interest. Additionally, the costumes incorporate a number of print and dye techniques, including shibori dying, hand painting and flocking. I have just started my first role as a costume trainee for tv and film, and I am excited to progress my career in the costume industry.
