Cailyn Smedley

Fashion Creative Direction BA(Hons)

As a Creative Direction student, my time at the University of Huddersfield has developed my skill set and helped focus my vison for the future. During my placement year, I had the opportunity to work at Joe Browns in Leeds, where I expanded my knowledge and interest in styling, content creation and marketing, with my own work featured in H&N Magazine. During my time as a student, I have explored many pathways, keeping an open mind when it came to trying new things. This ambitious mindset led to being a finalist for an Alexander McQueen competition, in which I was able to utilize my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator. I also volunteered as a dresser for graduate fashion week, allowing me to experience the fast-paced nature of the industry, which proved to myself I could thrive under pressure. My final project captured the skills I have developed over the course of my university experience, whilst allowing me to inject my own creativity in the form of upcycling. I focused on styling throughout, creating a fashion campaign video which developed my knowledge of video editing along with my styling portfolio, which I will take with me into industry.
