Inspiration for the Racing Lines collection came from personal family heritage in the motor racing industry. My father has always raced and been involved with the industry and encouraged my sister and I to do the same. Until recently, there had been an element of gender inequality in motorsport which I have experienced first-hand. I wanted to create a bold womenswear collection to spark power, fearlessness and determination in the wearer. I intend for this collection to highlight and work towards reducing gender inequality that can be experienced within racing and beyond. The AW21 collection takes design ideas from racing graphics and decals as well as car body work and race suits. This created bold shapes and oversized silhouettes which have produced a retro collection. The collection aims to provide easy to wear, comfortable athleisure clothing, with shaping and design details directly inspired by race suits. Although the clothing is created from female blocks, the collection lends itself to being worn by gender neutral consumers due to its oversized shaping and comprehensive colour palette. The oversized shaping has evolved from my research and photography of race suits on female figures, creating an oversized, slouchy silhouette.
