Ambiguity is often considered to be in opposition to transparent, concise forms of communication design. Yet my work consists of seven outcomes that are all, both individually and collectively, an exploration into how we can diversify discovery through the utilisation of ambiguity within design and design systems or “Translucent Design”. It can be seen that there are opportunities to utilise ambiguity as a design tool to enhance not only our processes as designers but also the interactions we have with our environment, the media and advertising exposure on a daily basis. The explorations ranged from signage to a restaurant experience design highlighting opportunities in which ambiguity through the context of design can provide extremely rich and compelling experiences but also act as a tool for diversifying discovery.
