Katie
‘Katie’ is centred around my 19-year-old sister’s life with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, she has had this since birth. The project shows the obstacles she faces in daily life and the relationships she has with members of the family and the things she enjoys doing. The aim of this project is to shine a light on people with disabilities, highlighting everyday life is not easy for those with a disability and there are things the ‘ordinary’ person without a disability takes for granted. However, this Statement emphasise having a disability does not mean one cannot be happy and enjoy life to the fullest. I do not want the viewer to feel sorry for Katie because she is the strongest person I know, which makes me a better person for knowing her. Katie is my role model in life and gives me the strength to carry on through my own personal struggles with disabilities.
