The Ties that Bind is a handwoven cashmere collection that celebrates the uniqueness of handcrafted textiles. The collection uses the ancient technique of ikat, a resist method of dyeing, where the warp threads are bound and dyed to create a distorted pattern. To give the ikat a modern twist; the process has been combined with double cloth, allowing a mix of structures and patterns to be created. These pieces are one hundred percent handmade with the cashmere fibres being hand-dyed, handwoven, and hand-finished by brushing with a teasel.
These pieces have been designed for woven throws, with the target market for this collection being mature adults who are looking to invest in a throw that will tell their story, becoming a treasured, heirloom piece that can be passed down from generation to generation. The ikat allows the design to be personalised making each throw as different as each family. The inspiration for this collection is Chester Tudor architecture, depicting Long’s story.
