Saskia Keon
Textiles BA/BSc(Hons)
Finding My Space. This project followed four months at the beginning of 2022. Using drawings and textiles Saskia has recorded stories, images and feelings gathered from time spent on her allotment. She has developed a style of textile practice that fits into a busy life. Using tried and tested techniques that were handed down for generations, mixed with handed down materials and found objects, she has developed a slow and calming method of working that she benefits from, and the environment is not negatively impacted by. For an interest such as the allotment or textiles to be sustainable in one’s life you must be benefitting from it in some way. The repetitive and rhythmic movement of both digging and stitching creates an opportunity for relaxation and reflection, both important in the busy fast paced world we live in.
