Welcome to this showcase featuring graduating students from the Department of Fashion & Textiles. The work you see in these showcases features a wide spectrum of creative ideas crafted in response to current and predicted future global challenges. Developing innovation through creative design and encouraging creativity and critical thinking throughout the design processes and in the process tackling some of the most important contemporary issues.
This year has seen the Department face both great opportunities and challenges; at the beginning of the year we brought whole Department together for the first time ever and joined the other two Departments from ADA in our new home in the award-winning Barbara Hepworth Building. Our students now benefit from a wonderful array of shared specialist resources, bringing them together with the whole School to create a vibrant Art and Design community. And even if that experience was temporarily cut short by the covid19 pandemic we feel a new and exciting chapter in the story of the Department has begun.
It has been a testament to the resilience of our students, staff and technicians that we have been able to produce such a diverse and vibrant body of work in the current circumstances and this showcase gives us a unique opportunity to celebrate individual successes and show the collective strength of the whole Department, and I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped make this happen.
