Welcome to this showcase featuring graduating students from the Department of Fashion & Textiles. The work featured represents a wide spectrum of creative ideas designed in response to current and predicted future global challenges. Developing innovation through design and encouraging creativity and critical thinking throughout is key to shaping a more sustainable fashion, costume, and textile industry.
Our graduates have developed great resilience to change and adopted new ways of working over the period of their studies; consequently, acquiring invaluable skills to take them forward to the next stage of their career. Our students benefit from an extensive shared specialist workshops and digital resources, which they have expertly employed in their personal final collections. Student experience and knowledge of the industry’s needs are developed through live briefs and through our association with the UKFT, Textile Institute, Future Fashion Factory, Textiles 2030 and support from London livery companies; Clothworkers, Framework Knitters, Weavers Company, and the Worshipful Company of Woolmen.
It has been a testament to the resilience of our students, staff, and technicians that students have returned to teaching on campus, and to produce such a diverse and vibrant body of work. This showcase gives us a unique opportunity to celebrate individual successes and show the collective strength of the whole Department.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped make this happen.
