I am a textiles artist whose specialism is costume and textile design with a focus on printing and dyeing. For my Final Major Project I selected the fantasy novel ‘The Islands of Fandye’ by Locke. I explored a vast range of textile techniques, such as digital printing, screen-printing, natural dyeing, and costume breaking down. I am passionately interested in seeking ways to visually represent characteristics through textiles. I believe that through textile design I can enhance the realism of the character for the audience (see character profile). For my final costume for The Water Fairy I took inspiration from symbols in nature. The costume was created using my own textile prints and fabric manipulations. It was exciting to have the opportunity to broaden my screen-printing skills in final year through pattern matching multiple 130x80 cm screens. I strive to be as sustainable as possible throughout all my printing processes.Throughout my degree I have developed skills in construction, design, printed textiles, and embroidery. During placement year I gained extensive textiles experience at the Royal Opera House, Pinewood Studios, Opera North, and Timorous Beasties. I am excited to begin my journey as a freelance artist.
